Triathlon women find unique challenges to competing
For triathlon women, competing in a triathlon has its own unique challenges
that men may not have to deal with. Namely, women triathletes need to concern
themselves with bra support and they may be concerned with modesty when
changing.
Female triathletes need to think ahead about transitions in the Ironman
For a longer length race like the Ironman, modesty isn’t as much a concern
because all triathletes have more time to change. Women can go into changing
tents and take their time, not having to worry about their transition time
counting towards their total time.
But for shorter length races like a sprint (the
Olympic length) or an
International length, triathletes must contend with getting their transition
time as short as possible because everything is such a race.
Many triathletes will just compete in the same outfit throughout the race –
their swim suit. If you’re a woman and you decide to do this, make sure you get
enough bra support to be comfortable. You may need to wear a sports bra
underneath your swim suit.
Manufacturers target women triathletes with clothes meant to be worn across the
swimming, cycling, and running
events. This may be the best of both worlds or a compromise of lowest common
denominators. Triathletes need to try them out during your training to figure
out what best works for them.
