Triathlon clothing helps Triathletes with Transition Times
Triathlon clothing target triathletes by helping them save time during their
transitions. What you have going on with a triathlon is three different events:
swimming, cycling, and running. For each sport,
apparel manufacturers have produced the best outfits for both comfort and
performance. No problem you say, I’ll just make sure I have the best swim suit
on when I’m swimming, then I’ll have the best
cycling clothes when I’m cycling,
and finally, I’ll put on the best running clothes when I’m running.
Specialized clothes help during Ironman race
The problem is with transition times. When triathletes compete in a shorter
length triathlon and their transition time is included in their total race time,
triathletes must do what they can to cut down their transition time. So then
what do you do? Many triathletes just stay in their swimsuit for the entire
race. Sports manufacturers have then targeted triathletes with clothes that will
work across all three events. Wearing triathlon clothes is less important for an
Ironman. That’s because typically in the ultra length triathlons, you can give
yourself a little more slack to change your clothes. Little. Not lots.
An example of triathlon clothes is the triathlon bike shorts.
Triathlon bike shorts are meant to be worn under
your wet suit during the swim event and then worn straight to the cycling and
running events. It will usually have less padding so that the padding doesn’t
get in the way during the other two events. Triathlon bike shorts will also
normally be made out of fleece or some other quick drying material.
