Triathlete Ultimate Goal
For people unfamiliar with endurance races, want they may not realize is that it’s not enough for a triathlete to compete in just in any old
triathlon. Just about all triathletes dream of competing in the ultimate Triathlon and finishing as an Iron Man or Iron Woman.
You thought triathlons were all the same thing? Triathlons actually come in different lengths. While the original Ironman consisted of
running 26.3 miles, biking 112 miles, and then swimming 2.4 miles, we have since then also seen the development of a few other lengths. Shorter triathlons include:
· Sprint or Olympic length: total of 16 miles
· International length: total of 31.93 miles
· Long length: total of 70.3 miles
So anytime you’re talk to triathletes, you can see their eyes light up when they talk of their ultimate dream to be an Iron Man or Iron Woman, too, and join the ranks of our first Iron Man,
Gordon Haller, who was awarded his title in 1978. He races 140.6 miles towards his goal.
Triathletes can participate in variations of the triathlon. One includes the duathlon which takes the swimming part out of the triathlon. The second more recent development is the Aquabike race which takes the running part out of the triathlon.
