Swimming Techniques should focus on Vessel Shaping
When triathletes think about their bike event, they usually do everything
they can to reduce their drag co-efficiency. That’s because they know that for
every little thing that can cut down on their drag, they can reap a reward of
seconds shaved off of their time. But when they jump in the pool for their
training, they don’t consider how their swimming techniques could help them
reduce their drag co-efficiency in the water.
Triathlon Training usually falls short on technique
Studies show that professional Olympic swimmers can swim faster because
they’ve improved their body’s drag. So what this means is without having to be
stronger, but just because they’ve learned to be more efficient with their
swimming, a professional swimmer can shave seconds off of their event time. If
your Triathlon training doesn’t include a
focus on your swim techniques, you’re robbing yourself of an opportunity to swim
faster.
Instead of working on strength solely to pull yourself through the water,
consider how you can improve your swimming style.
Work with a swim coach who can look at your techniques and critically evaluate
them. They’ll tell you how your lateral and horizontal alignments are. They’ll
also look at your stroke style and how your kicking is working for you. It’s
important to get help on your technique. After all, brute force can only go so
far.
