Swimming Goggles Save Your Eyes
Swimming Goggles aren’t a required accessory by Triathlon management teams but just about every triathlete you see will be wearing them or swim masks. Why? In the salt water of many Triathlons, triathletes need them to protect their eyes from the salt. Not only from the salt, but swim goggles can protect the triathlete’s eyes from injury from other swimmers or any elements of the open-water.
Triathletes won’t just use goggles for Triathlons; they use them for indoor pool training as well. The chlorine can be really hard on the eyes; wearing goggles helps protect them.
Goggles are a little more forgiving than masks are regarding fitting one’s face. However, the triathlete should still try some on in person before making a purchasing decision. Not all goggles fit all faces equally.
Corrective Lenses can help your Triathlon Performance
If you need glasses or contacts, consider buying goggles with corrective lenses. You can get them but give yourself enough time before any racing dates so that you’ll get them in time.
Many triathletes prefer swim masks over goggles when in the open-water. They feel the masks afford them better visibility than the goggles do. This is really just a matter of personal preference. Try
swimming in both a pair of goggles and a mask. Which one do you prefer?
