Swim team can help you train for your Ironman
Why should you join a swim team? “I don’t really care about swimming; I just
want that Ironman on my mantle.” But swimming is an
integral part of training for your triathlon. Don’t give it a back seat to your
other events just because in the past you’ve had more success improving your
cycle and run splints.
Runners can learn from swimmers
You can meet your swim limitations head on by joining a swim team. Not all
swim teams are about competition where all the swimmers have to be Olympic
hopefuls. You can find a team out there that meets more like a club. They might
even have a couple of clinics or training programs that target triathletes.
Even if you decide not to join a team, you can get a lot of useful help by
getting to know some of the members better. They can recommend personal trainers
or coaches for you to contact. You can watch their technique and apply what you
can yourself. You can gain valuable product reviews from people who swim all the
time.
You might even get some valuable transition tips from swimmers. You’ll find
their wealth of knowledge beyond your imagination. This makes sense because
you’ve come from the running or cycling world. You
could explain all the ins and outs of different bike frames or racing shoes. So
go ahead and jump in. You might be surprised at your swim times afterwards.
