Swim meet can help you prepare for your Ironman

Have you ever been in a swim meet? Why not? “Because I’m not a swimmer, I’m a triathlete” is probably what you’re saying. But just as many of you have run marathons or distance cycle events. Consider what you’d get from entering a swim event. This will give you the chance to focus solely on the swim split of your next triathlon.

Runners can benefit from swim team participation

Train with other swimmers or get a personal swim coach. You’ll be surprised at all the tips you’ll pick up just through osmosis. Okay, that was a pun and don’t take it literally. But seriously, many swim clubs welcome runners into their folds; they even offer clinics for triathlons.

You’ll learn how to improve your swim techniques to both power you through the water and to cut down on the drag that your own body creates. Just because you don’t consider your own swim time as Olympic hopeful doesn’t mean you won’t get a lot out of training for a swim meet. We don’t learn karate from an amateur. Why should you limit your swimming to what you can pick up yourself? Go out there and swim! Swim coaches can analyze you, help you with swim drills, and then keep you on track.
