Swim Mask Helps With Visibility
Whether you go with a swim mask or swim goggles for your Triathlon is up to you. People that prefer a mask say that they get better visibility. People that prefer goggles say they like how they don’t apply as much pressure around the front of the face.
You can get both masks and goggles with prescription glass to give you 20/20 vision while you’re in your
swim event.
One thing that is absolutely paramount about buying your mask is that you have to put it on for fit. You can’t buy a mask through a catalog or online and assume it will fit. While you can get a great mask from any of the big name manufacturers like Cressi-sub, TYR, Aquasphere, or Barracuda, it doesn’t guarantee fit. They make their masks so that it will work with most people but at the end of it all, you just have to try it on.
Want to know how to check a mask’s fit? Place a mask on your face, but don’t wrap the strap around the back of your head. Let the strap sit on top of the mask or your head. Without strapping the mask on, breathe in and lift your hand away from the mask. It should stay in place. If it doesn’t, then the mask isn’t a good fit for your face.
When you wear you mask, make sure you swipe away any loose hairs that got caught in the rubber. They will let water siphon in. Also, if you have a mustache, consider shaving it before you compete in any
triathlons. You’ll also have the same problem with your mask not keeping a good suction on your face. If you don’t want to part with your mustache, consider using
swim goggles instead.
