Swim Fins Increase Your Propulsion
Swim fins should be an integral part of your swim training for your
Triathlon. What they do is increase the resistance that your legs have to
overcome to propel you forward in the water. They’ll make your legs stronger
faster. Training with fins uses the same
principals that lifting weights uses over just moving your body in the same
motion.
You can either buy fins that are fitted to your foot size exactly or you can buy
a fin that has a strap in the back that is adjustable. Since you’re only going
to be using the fins only during your training, you don’t need to worry about
which kind is easier for you to use.
Triathlon times better after more aggressive swim training
If you do decide to use your fins as a part of your open-water training, use
these pointers. Put your fins on before you get in the water. It’s all too easy
to lose them in the surf. Another helpful hint for training triathletes? Walk
into the water backwards, with your back to the waves. The added resistance that
the fins provide you when you’re swimming make it
very difficult to walk into the surf as well.
Other water resistant tools include swim paddles. Swim paddles have the extra
benefit in that they are often designed to help you gain proper swim technique.
