Sports Injury keeps runners from competing

A sports injury can sideline a triathlete from competing in their triathlon. Triathlon training is a year around event and a life style for triathletes. Therefore, any injury that you get while training can be devastating.

Common Injuries include:

· foot pain
· shin splints
· runner’s knee
· lateral knee pain
· low back pain and
· low shoulder pain

Why Injuries Can Occur

While the exact reason for an injury really can’t be put into a cookie cutter answer, there are common reasons that will most likely cause an injury. They include:

· Poor fitting shoes or other equipment
· Improper movements. Just think of how people get carpal tunnel syndrome from poor ergo-metrics while working.
· Over training which doesn’t give your muscles a chance to recover from training. You’ll get swelling, soreness, or pain if you’re over training.

The usual treatment for a training injury is RICE. RICE stands for

· rest
· ice
· compression
· elevation

If your injury doesn’t clear up even after you’ve worked towards resolving the underlying problem and you applied RICE, contact a sports doctor. To prevent an injury from keeping you out of your next triathlon, make sure you stretch up, warm up and cool down when training. You may need to adjust your strength training to help you target weaker muscles.
