Sports Injuries Can Sideline Your Training

More than any other single event (except maybe for the grousing spouse), sports injuries account for more triathletes having to pull out of their Triathlon plans. Because triathletes are basically in training year round, a sports injury can really put a dent in their training for triathlons.


Learn how to treat your sports injuries for your triathlon training

For any triathlon training injury, follow the RICE method to treat it. RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. 

What is causing the injury? It’s important to find out as soon as possible. Did you over train, is it bad technique, poor fitting shoes or other tri equipment are all good questions to ask. What you don’t want to do is ignore your training injury and assume it happened in a vacuum. While bad things can happen to good people; we want to make sure we’re not the cause of them.

To keep a minor training injury from getting worst, you need to take some time off. Be creative in your return to training; maybe exercising and running in the pool can help give you a workout without stressing your injury.

To prevent training injuries, it’s important that triathletes give themselves ample time for stretching, warming up and cooling down while training. Being disciplined in these matters will really help keep injuries from sidelining your Triathlon dreams.
