Sports Bikes Built Just For Triathlons

Are you new to the Ironman world? One piece of equipment that requires your research will be your bike. Probably the single most expensive equipment you need for your race, your bike must be the right type for the job. What you want to do right away in your search is focus on sports bikes that are built specifically for racing in a triathlon. Touring bikes are really for slow steady rides, not the aggressive pedaling you’d be doing in triathlons. Mountain bikes are more comfortable but they’ll kill you in performance.

Leave your touring bike at home!

Fortunately, manufacturers such as Cannondale, Trek, Cervelo, and Softride have cycles that are specialized for the world of triathlons. You basically have three choices:

* Bikes made for Triathlon. They’ll have smaller wheels on both the front and back than the time trial or the road bikes. The seat will usually push the rider into a running position on the bike
* Time Trial Bike. Will usually have a smaller front wheel than a road bike.
* Road Bike. Better than tour or mountain bikes if you have the option.

When you buy your bike, consider getting upgraded handle bars and pedals to help you pick up speed while you’re racing against the clock. Don’t walk out without a helmet either. Look more a good make like Bell. They’re mandatory (along with clothes) for most triathlons.
