Specialized Bikes For Triathletes

You need a bike to train. You’ve heard about those specialized bikes designed for triathletes. Do you need one of those or can you use what you have in your garage? It depends on what you’ve got sitting in your garage.

Many choices to choose from for the Triathlon

If you have a touring or mountain bike, you can use them to train for a triathlon while you’re shopping for you bike, but you are not going to want to race in them. Why? Because they simply weren’t built with a race in mind.

For a triathlon, athletes really want to be riding on one of three cycle types:

* bikes built for triathlons
* Time Trial Bike
* Road Bike

They will have shaping that encourages the triathlete to stay in a particular position. They are usually lightweight and have smaller wheels which require less energy to move.

In a nutshell, the road bike will have a larger front wheel than a time trial bike. You find that bikes built for triathlons will normally have both smaller front and back wheels than the time trial bike. The seat will also usually propel the rider into a running position.

Cannondale, Trek, Cervelo, and Softride all make bikes built with the triathlete in mind. You won’t go wrong if you stick with one of these manufacturers.
