Triathlon
Training requirements increase as the triathlete works his or her way up the food chain. A sprint version requires the triathlete to swim ½ mile, bike 12.4 miles and run 3.1 miles. As they improve their ability, some triathletes move from a sprint event to an Olympic event (also known as international or standard), on to a half-Ironman, through a long distance one, and finally reaching the pinnacle of all races, the
Ironman (also known as the ultra).
Swimming
Studies show that proper technique can increase swim time up to 50% faster. Bill Boomer, swim coach for University of Rochester in New York, believes that vessel shaping, a term he coined, has more impact on a swimmer’s time than hand movement.
Cycling
Experts recommend that you either get a bike that is made just for triathlons, a time-trail bike or a road bike. The bike made just for triathlons differs from the other two in that the seat post moves the rider up into a running position and both wheels are smaller, requiring less energy to cycle.
Running
Because of safety reasons, modern triathlons run the events in the opposite order. You swim first, then you bike, and finally, you run that marathon. The idea behind this is that if runners fall down from exhaustion during a run, they fall to the ground. If you drop from exhaustion while you’re in the ocean, chances are you’re going to drown. Not a good way to attract contestants. So now, you run last.
Triathlon Training
Time saving tips will come in handy for you when you start up your training. Find training spots that are close to you so that you don’t have to travel that far to and back from your training location. If there isn’t a gym close by, consider outfitting your home with some basic weight-lifting equipment to help you build your muscle mass and strength.
