Running Training for your first Ironman
Running training takes on a whole new meaning when you’re taking on an
Ironman. Most triathletes that are in training have already run a marathon
before. So they’ve already successfully gone through an endurance training
regime. Triathlon training should focus on
improving your running when in a fatigued state.
Training practice will usually focus on proper form when you’re working on your
running. You should be thinking of how you can make your running more efficient.
You’ll need to focus on how to complete your run event when you’re already
fatigued from swimming and biking.
Have somebody videotape you running so that you can see what you might to do
increase your efficiency. Shorten your stride, try to stop yourself from bobbing
up and down, and focus on increasing your stride rate rather than your stride
length.
Training requires more focus on proper form for fatigued state
running
Finally, after you get your training going, you’re going to need to train in
a fatigued state so that your body gets used to better utilization of your body
stores when you’re tired. Don’t over do it; try to train in a fatigued state a
couple of times a week. By running when you’re tired, you will be in better
shape to finish your Ironman when you’re tired, too.
By running in a fatigued state, you can also become more aware of poor posture
that occurs when you’re tired. Again, have somebody videotape you so you can
analyze your running form and focus on ways to improve your
running posture.
