Running Shorts Made for Triathlon
For some races, you’ll want to wear the running shorts that work the best for
you across all splints. Regular swim shorts may not provide enough cushioning or
management the way cycling shorts do. Cycling shorts may be too padded and
encumbering to be run in comfortably. They might stay soggy during the cycling
event from being worn in the swim event.
Many Keep Shorts On During Entire Triathlon
Look for shorts that have been designed to be worn during the entire
triathlon. They will usually be shaped like cycling shorts but with less padding
and will be in a quick drying material.
Whatever you do, make sure you try your new running
shorts in training sessions that mimic your
real event. Swim in them and see how you feel. Go from swimming to biking in
your wet shorts and see how they stand up. Try wearing the same pair for a run
as well.
For longer races like the Ironman, you will probably be able to eek out just
enough time to change your clothes if you need to. In that case, get three pairs
of shorts – one for swimming, one for cycling, and one for running in.
