Running Shoes may not be good enough for Triathlon
Running Shoes play a big role in your performance
during a triathlon. The problems most triathletes have are with what shoes to
use during shorter length triathlons. For longer triathlons, the triathlete can
probably take the time to switch between their cycling shoes and their running
shoes.
Triathlon running shoes come full circle for bike event
For shorter races, the transition time plays a much bigger role in the
triathlete’s overall time. Originally, bike manufacturers came up with bike
pedal “cages” that held the triathlete’s shoes in place so that they could go
from cycling to running without changing shoes. The problem with this solution
is that it was hard to release your feet when you were finished.
For a while, cleated shoes with clipless pedals seemed to be the way to go. The
only problem with this is that again, it can be very hard to take your shoes out
of the clips when you’re done. These shoes are also not meant to be worn during
the running splint.
The latest innovation for triathletes is the transition pedal. This pedal is a
slip on where you wear your running shoes over it. What about losing all that
energy because your running shoes are too soft? Here’s where the pedal part
comes in. It’s got a long hard bottom meant to mimic a
cycling shoe’s bottom to minimize the amount of energy you lose on each
pedal.
