Running injuries impact race performance
Running injuries can really sideline you from your Triathlon training goals.
That’s because with all the training between the swimming, running, and
cycling, any running injuries will impact you across
the board.
Make Training safe for your body
When you get injured, make sure you use RICE to treat your sports injury. R
is for Rest. I is for Ice. C is for Compression, and E is for Elevation.
Running injuries are often from poor fitting equipment
or poor mechanics. Make sure that you analyze what you’re doing and
systematically remove problems that could cause a repeat injury. You don’t have
to train in pain. You’d be surprised at the difference that the right shoe or
the right running technique can do for you.
While you’re on the mend, try some cross-training as long as it doesn’t put
pressure on your injury. You may find a rowing machine works. Take this time to
put your weight lifting into overtime (but don’t get injured here either!). You
can also try exercising in water to keep your own weight from keeping you from
training. You may need to adjust your strokes to make sure you aren’t stressing
any injuries.
If you’re really down for the count, don’t despair. Take the time to read up on
product reviews, study endurance nutrition, or even analyze your training plan
to make sure you’re were on the right track.
