What to look for when choosing racing bikes for your next Triathlon
Bike manufactures have continually shown innovations with racing bikes in an
effort to win over new customers or keep current ones. If you are buying a new
bike for your next Triathlon, make sure you’re getting a good value for your
purchases; your bike should have some improvements over you last bike or that
manufacturer is lagging behind. Those innovations focus on two areas:
1) speed
2) reliability
In terms of speed, bike manufacturers have focused on anything they can do to
reduce the drag that a bike will create. Two areas where they focus are the tire
rim and the spoke design. In terms of spoke design,
triathlon bikes will have a composite spoke design which will greatly reduce
the bike’s drag.
The other area where cycling manufacturers focus on is
reliability. A triathlete does not want to be in their final stretch of their
bike event only to have the bike break down on them. Flat tires have cost
triathletes their cut-off times.
Racing Bike Innovations
When you buy your new bike, look for the composite wheel spoke design. This
design will reduce your bike’s drag and shave minutes off of your bike time. You
may also want to consider wheel size and what type of rim system you want:
tubulars (newer) or clinchers (more traditional design).
