Cycling Apparel More Important
You may not have to worry about it in shorter races, but your cycling apparel can really make a difference in you’re going to be in a long triathlon like the Ironman. Why? Two words. Pain and Numbness. Enough said?
In a Longer Triathlon you need the right gear
The most important thing you can buy for the triathlon
is correct bike apparel is a good pair of bike shorts. A good pair of bike shorts will be padded. Women and men’s shorts are designed differently. Make sure you get the right kind for your gender.
For most races, you aren’t required to wear a shirt but you might want to anyways. A bike
jersey with sleeves will protect you in case of a fall. They also have pockets in the back where you can store food or water.
Getting the right pair of gloves will also help your hands from cramping up during
triathlons. Besides that, they’ll keep you hands warm in cold weather and help protect your hands if you should fall off your bike.
You should also look into getting cycling shoes. Cycling shoes have stiffer soles which will let you transfer more of your peddling energy into the bike. If you kept your jogging shoes, the same way they protect your knees when your feet hit the ground, they would take some of your energy away when you pedal.
Cannondale, Bell, Giorana, and Pearl all make apparel that you can use during the bike event of triathlons.
