when cycling
Learn your bike, the different parts:
* Drive Train, Breaks and that stuff
* Wheels and Tires
* Hubs
* Spokes
* Rims
You need to learn not just want they are but how to maintain them and make road repairs to keep you from having to drop out of a race. Either get chummy with the local bike shop where you bought it, find a friend who knows his or her bike well, or find a good site online that caters to triathletes.
