Bike Helmets Mandatory For Triathletes
Bike Helmets are mandatory equipment for all triathletes. This isn’t something that is nice to have; you have to have a bike helmet in order to be allowed in a
Triathlon. Helmets must be worn by triathletes before they take their bikes out of the rack! If you are caught without wearing your helmet, you face being disqualified from the race.
Make sure you get a helmet that has been rated by either Snell (on its crash-ability) or the American National Standard Institute (ANSI). In case you were wondering, Snell, while it means fast in Germany, isn’t guaranteeing your time in your next Ironman.
You might wonder if the more expensive helmets are worth it to buy. Studies have shown that they can shave a half minute on your 112 mile bike route if you wear them. The more expensive hats have a more aerodynamic shape which cuts down on your drag. Depending on how competitive you are and how good you are, you may want to consider getting one.
At any rate, check the coolness rating on your helmet. Just because you have to wear one for safety reasons doesn’t mean you want to cook your head while your propel yourself into first place. So when you’re shopping for you other
cycling apparel, make sure you don’t leave the shop without your bike helmet.
