Bicycle Race Transitions Can Save You Time
You managed to keep up with the others in the swim event and you can’t wait to get started in the bicycle race. You’re excited because the bike event is your best event. Stumbling out of the water, you head for your bike. Oh no! Where is it? Your bike! Staggering around, you watch dismayed as your competitors get out of their wet gear and onto their bikes, leaving you behind.
Nightmare? Or first time sob story? Don’t forget about the impact that swim to bike transitions can have on your first
Triathlon. It’s better to plan your transitions out than to come out of the water confused. Here are pointers to help you with your transition from the swim event to bike:
· Put a bright beach towel next to your bike to help you identify it.
· Put your bicycle in low gear to save you time later.
· Prepare all of your bike apparel. Loosen your shoes, wrap your socks down to the ankles, and loosen the zippers on all of your clothes.
· If you don’t mind putting on your bike shoes while you’re on your bike, then attach your shoes to your pedals with rubber bands.
· If there are more than one rack set up, make sure you remember which one it is.
· After you set up your bike, go to the Swim in. Turn around and look for your
bike. Look for landmarks or anything else that will help you find your bike.
If you lose your car in the parking lot at work, school, or while shopping, suffice it say that planning on your swim to bike transitions is a good idea.
