Adidas Running Shoes Have a Long History

The Adidas running shoe has been around longer than most. Originally created by German brothers, Adi and Rudolf Dassler, the Adidas company produces millions of shoes every year and the three stripes logo has been worn by some of the greatest athletes of all time, including triathletes in triathlons. These running shoes are special indeed!

About Adidas...

The Beginning History of Adidas...

- 1920 - first Adidas shoe designed by Adi and Rudolf Dassler
- 1927 - short distance spikes designed for 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam
- 1925 - first football (soccer) boots with nailed studs
- 1927 - Adi and Rudi Dassler rent their first factory (employ 25 staff)
- 1931 - first tennis shoes
- 1932 - Arthur Jonath (wearing Dassler shoes) wins 100m Olympic bronze medal
- 1936 - Jesse Owens wins four gold medals (and five world records) wearing Dassler shoes
- 1937 - production of 30 different shoes for eleven sports (including roller skates)
- 1938 - produces 1000 pairs of shoes a day
- 1940 - first shoes called adidas
- 1945 - American Army seizes factory and has 1000 pairs of hockey boots produced per month
- 1948 - first use of three stripes. Adi and Rudolf split apart... Adi stays with Adidas while Rudolf creates Puma
- 1949 - three stripes registered as trademark
- 1952 - Adidas most worn shoe at Olympics. Emil Zatopek wins three golds (5000m, 10000m and marathon) in one week wearing Adidas
- 1954 - German team wins World Cup wearing Adidas. 450 000 pairs of shoes are produced in one year
- 1960 - 75% of all athletes at Rome's Olympics wear Adidas. "Italia" training shoe is launched
- 1961 - clothing introduced
- 1964 - 80% of all athletes at Tokyo's Olympics wear Adidas.
- 1968 - 85% of all Track and Field athletes at Mexico's Olympics wear Adidas. 37 gold medals are won by athletes wearing the Three Stripes.
- 1970 - official Adidas ball, the 'Telstar', is designed. It still is the official World Cup ball
- 1971 - Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier fight while wearing Adidas boots
- 1976 - son, Horst, has Adidas producing over 45 million pairs of shoes per year
- 1978 - Adi passes away
